Status Report by the European Communities
The following communication, dated 8 June 2000, from the Permanent Delegation of the European Commission to the Chairman of the Dispute Settlement Body, is circulated pursuant to Article 21.6 of the DSU.
Status Report on the Implementation of the Recommendations and Rulings in the
Dispute regarding European Communities - Regime for the Importation,
Sale and Distribution of Bananas
The European Communities informs the DSB that it has continued bilateral discussions with the WTO Members concerned as well as with other interested parties. The European Communities wishes to submit a calendar of the main discussions the EC has had with government representatives of the interested parties over the last 12 months. It is obvious from this calendar of negotiations that the European Communities has made efforts at all levels, and has spent endless hours in pursuit of an acceptable solution to this dispute. However, there continues to be divergent views expressed by the main parties concerned, and even where there is apparent agreement, differences continue to emerge regarding the details. As a result, no agreed conclusions have been reached so far.
